Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a site that hosts videos and commentaries analysing portrayals gender roles in pop culture. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in popular culture, she seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of the Internet environment. Holding a master's degree in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. When she was a student at the university she became concerned about issues related to gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. An ambitious woman who wanted to create a web series that examined the gender-based representation in video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. In fact, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critic. She has won numerous awards to recognize her significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning journalist. She also serves as the founder and director of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
